From the October 1973 Issue of Car and Driver
Chevrolet enters 1974 with a new nameplate: the Malibu Classic. This is distinguishable from more mundane Chevelles because of its life-like reproduction of a Mercedes-Benz 450 SE grille complete with stand-up ornament. If that weren’t enough, opera windows have been carved into the rear to quiet the protesting moans of countless Chevrolet dealers. But instead of using the Monte Carlo’s notchback roofline in conjunction with the miniaturized quarter-windows, Chevrolet has merely blanked off the major expanse of last year’s triangular glass and covered it over with a vinyl roof. The dealers should love it.
