WD-40, the all-purpose solvent that helps car geeks unstick rusty bolts in their garages, is partnering with SEMA Cares to build a custom Chevrolet Camaro SS/RS for this year’s SEMA show. The car gets a unique blue-and-yellow paint scheme to mimic WD-40’s iconic can; the theme also recalls the Camaro GS concept we saw at the 2008 SEMA show.
To get ready for its SEMA debut at the beginning of November, the WD-40 Camaro has already received a SportsRyder Extreme coilover suspension, as well as a new front splitter, rear wing, and a set of more aggressive side skirts. The company plans to revamp the car’s interior, upgrade the sound system, and extract more than 600 hp from its 6.2-liter V-8, although there are no details on what powertrain mods are in store.
A virtual version of the Camaro will also be found in the online racing game Nitto 1320 Legends, and the WD-40 online fan club (we were surprised that it exists, too) will offer updates on the car’s modifications. After displays at SEMA and several other car shows, the Camaro will be auctioned in January at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale. Proceeds from the sale will benefit Childhelp, a charity which supports abused and neglected children, and The Victory Junction Gang Camp, which offers camping trips for disabled children.
