The Ford Mustang started the whole Detroit sporty-car boom three years ago, and the car has been a gold mine for Ford Division ever since. The 289 Cu. in. version of the Mustang cleaned up in our poll two years running, and now the heftier, heartier 390 cu. in. GT model is doing the same job. We described the 390 GT, in our November, 1966 issue, as “the fastest of the current sporty-type cars from Detroit.” We also like its handling and ride, and you seem to have agreed with us across the board. The 390 beat a lot of hot competition for its Over 300 Cu. In. laurels, so it’s obvious that many of our readers have taken the Mustang pledge.
